The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the United Nations body for assessing the science related to climate change, released a report on climate change mitigation progress and pledges. In the last decade, the average annual global greenhouse gas emissions reached its highest levels in human history — but the rate of growth has slowed. Immediate reductions in emissions across the planet are required to halt global warming at 1.5°C, and IPCC scientists identified an increase in actions and workable solutions to address climate change.
The IPCC report examines the sources of global emissions, explains developments in emission reduction and mitigation efforts, and assesses the impact of national climate pledges in relation to long-term emissions goals.
